Pra quem gosta de Turgeniev, pra quem gosta de ficção boa

Com uma introdução um pouco menos fluída, mas um núcleo dinâmico, o livro faz justiça à sua reputação de clássico.

Com uma abordagem que lembra Turgeniev tanto pela escolha de ponto de vista para a história (elite privilegiada rural) quanto pelo enredo (disputa com uma figura paterna), o livro constrói algo novo ao se valer de um afiado senso de humor e perspicazes observações sociais e históricas. Além disso, seus personagens são mais verossímeis do que algumas pesssoas de carne e osso que já vi por aí. Destaque total para a Sarah, as gêmeas e o major.

O livro serve tanto ao leitor interessado na Irlanda quanto no interessado em ficção de qualidade. Não encontrei cópia em português, mas o texto original em inglês é excelente. Seu rico vocabulário não se torna uma obstrução ou desafio, mas um convite à pesquisa.
