Pode-se dizer que o décimo livro da série mortal marca o amadurecimento da detetive Eve Dallas no que se refere a relações humanas. Depois de passar anos mantendo uma distância segura de qualquer contato que trouxesse amor, carinho e confiança, um homícidio, cujo morto realmente recebeu o que mereceu, conforme opinião geral dos que o cercam, mostram a Eve que é possível trabalhar ao lado da justiça e ser cercada por aqueles que ama.

Outro fato interessante é que está se tornando mais difícil identificar o assassino (algo relativo fácil nos primeiros livros da série), o que torna a leitura ainda mais interessante.
