O quarto volume da decalogia Stormlight traz uma queda abrupta de tom com a tomada de Urithiru. Aqueles que esperavam uma história recheada de batalhas ficarão a ver navios, posi Sanderson preferiu uma abordagem mais intimista para sua guerra - o teatro da mente e suas patologias.

A depressão, vigente no STPT de Kaladin, alcança seu ápice em uma das melhores descrições do que pode atingir um soldado. Há um bom desenvolvimento da dualidade do personagem entre assassino e médico, com até uma incipiente formação de tratamento psicológico.

É impossível não relacionar essa narrativa com a Primeira Guerra Mundial, quando o "battleshock" ficou mais conhecido. Dabbid, por exemplo, é uma óbvia referência a indução de deficientes intelectuais no exército. Tal abordagem, infelizmente, tomou espaço de outros persoagens da Bridge 4, e temos apenas a rápida aparição ou menção de alguns, como Lopen e Teft. Para os fãs do grupo que iniciou a saga, foi uma perda significativa.

O Transtorno de Personalidade de Shallan também se transforma e fornece os primeiros sinais de cura, ou melhor dizendo, controle. Os capítulos dedicados a ela são igualmente dividos com seu marido, Adolin, em que ambos viajam e permanecem em Shadesmar.

A política dos Spreen não é tão evoluída como a trama que se passa em Roshar, mas tem efeitos mais significativos. Finalmente recebemos mais informação sobre o que aconteceu durante a debandada dos Radiant.

Outra mudança de foco foi de Dalinar para Navani. Mais do que qualquer outro, a Rainha foi a personagem que mais recebeu informação e desenvolvimento - é através de suas descobertas e ações que mais do complexo sistema mágico de Roshar é revelado. Não é preciso saber muito sobre música para entender a proposta, de fato, um conhecimento básico de física pode ser mais interessante - como as Songs, ou vibrações, do planeta e dos deuses criam a magia.

Há ainda uma miríade de pequenos detalhes como memórias e visões do futuro, a presença dos Worldhoppers como Wit e Mraze, e as reviravoltas pelas quais o autor é conhecido. São mais de mil páginas nesse volume e tanta informação que não é surpresa o fato de que Sanderson tem um grupo de suporte dedicado apenas a administrar as regras e confluências do universo Cosmere.

É uma ótima obra para quem gosta desse tipo de detalhismo.
