É um bom livro, relativamente completo e sem dúvidas importante

Esse é um livro que ficou rapidamente datado, como boa parte do que é publicado em relações internacionais.

Acredito que Martin Jacques não tinha como saber de Trumps e Bolsonaros e por isso talvez não esperaria que os avanços imperialistas dos EUA seriam tão brutais e tão descarados. Literalmente intervindo na democracia de uma série de países (e, novamente, comprovando que apenas ter uma série de ritos democráticos não garante uma democracia, como é possível ver em boa parte dos países dependentes.)

Ares melhores surgem ao ver Pedro Castillo no Peru e Gabriel Boric no Chile, mas ainda assim temos governos hiper conservadores, retrógrados e burros em países centrais do sul global como é o caso do Brasil, Índia e Filipinas.

Os dois primeiros, eram vistos como possibilidades de potências na época que o livro foi escrito, em 2022, esses países estão sendo utilizados para tentar manter a hegemonia econômica dos EUA no mundo. O que gera uma profunda depressão.

A mudança necessária para Índia e Brasil se tornarem potências depois dos desastres econômicos e sanitários que foram os governos de extrema direita precisaria ser gigantesca. Precisaria ser brutal .

E uma última coisa... Lula estava fazendo exatamente tudo que precisava para crescer como a China cresce. Mas aqui as forças do imperialismo cantaram mais forte. DENTRO das "instituições democráticas" que deveriam assegurar participação popular, mas desde 2016 demonstram evidências que na realidade servem justamente para o contrário.
