Based in Dublin in 1902, Sam Sweet dives into the Liffey after a street urchin who has stolen his wallet. Beautiful, rich Victoria Brewer witnesses the event and mistakes Sweet's desire to get his wallet back with heroics. The unlikely pair hit it off and become lovers. Victoria's twin brother Arthur head of a prosperous Dublin brewery becomes Sam's new best friend and together a fruitful business partnership if formed. Before long Sam meets a beautiful Jewish actress Gloria, who awakens his dormant Jewish background. Years pass and the Irish Republican Brotherhood reveal the discontent of the Irish people. Sam and Arthur try to assist in whatever way they can and by Easter 1916 neither man is sure of his destiny.
