A tale of vengeance, true love, and cannibalism Being born undead can have its disadvantages, such as eternal youth and flawless beauty ---things most unsuitable for a witch. Hiding behind the guise of a grimy old crone, the witch is content living outside Fort Stalwart with her unlikely band of allies: a troll named Gwurm, an enchanted broom, and a demonic duck named Newt. She leads a simple life filled with spells, potions, and the occasional curse. So when a White Knight arrives at Fort Stalwart, the witch knows her days of peace are at an end. The Knight is just days in front of a horde of ravenous goblings, and Fort Stalwart lies right in the horde’s path. But the goblings are just the first wave of danger, and soon the witch and the Knight must combine forces on a perilous quest to stop a mad sorcerer from destroying the world. Filled with menace, monsters, and magic, A Nameless Witch is a properly witchly read by the award-winning author of Gil’s All Fright Diner and In the Company of Ogres.

    Charming

Where to start? This is basically a cliché start to finish (which I hate) that ended up really surprising me (which I love). Let me start by saying that the information I had about the book was pretty much the cover and let me point out that I'm very attracted to subjects such as witches and fantasy, so I was eager to get into the story. Right in the first pages you would think that this is kind of a self-help book, as the witch (who doesn't have a name, hence the title) is different from the others, so she goes through life being bullied (by the way, witches are supposed to be ugly, and she's not), and it kinda is a self-help book in the sense that the reader can learn through her to be their own person, find their own value and use their intelligence and team work to solve different problems and overcome obstacles. The witch is helped by their little friends -creatures as unique as her- and they set up almost unwillingly to save the world with the White Knight. So again, I really like the fact that it sounds clichéd (even though the hero is a witch and the knight is a supporting character), but living this world (amazing imagery) that the writer sets up for us, with the distinctive and quirky characters along the situations that they face and how they handle them is a wonderful and charming experience.
