Um homem acorda e se encontra em meio uma sociedade utópica perfeita, em que as pessoas usam a tecnologia o mínimo necessário e todas são hermafroditas. É um livro de seu tempo, escrito na década de 60, em que iniciou o movimento e luta pela igualdade dos sexos na sociedade. Tem tons palestrais e opinativos do que um romance propriamente dito. Lembra um pouco "A Mão Esquerda da Escuridão" de Ursula K Le Guin, sendo este muito superior.
