Inner Demons começa morno e segue assim quase em sua totalidade. Apesar de apresentar potencial para uma narrativa mais interessante do que a do volume anterior, o livro escorrega e acaba caindo nas mesmas armadilhas que tornam sem antecessor um pouco maçante.
Apesar de uma linha narrativa bastante rápida e de todo o êxito em desenvolver elementos de uma mitologia previamente construída, o livro falha em trazer novos elementos, que mantenham o frescor da trama. Os personagens soam quase sempre muito superficiais e, em meio a tantos perigos eminentes (e muitos clichês de fantasia e romance), é quase impossível que o leitor se importe com qualquer um deles.
