Told in short suspenseful chapters by three alternating male narrators – a corrupt and pompous civil servant, a beleaguered, yet still romantic, itinerant poet, and a duplicitous local entrepreneur – The Skating Rink is a wholly engrossing tale of murder and its motives.

Roberto Bolaño Ávalos
Bolaño cresceu no México e voltou ao Chile natal no começo dos anos 70, entusiasmado com o governo do presidente socialista Salvador Allende. Derrubado o regime, em 1973, o jovem trotskista foi perseguido e passou alguns dias na prisão. Depois, partiu para a Espanha e, na Costa Brava catalã, acabou fincando raízes. Seus livros tratam de modo original o gênero policial, mas também falam de política e drogas, além de refletir sobre a própria literatura, tendo usualmente escritores --e a si mesmo-- como personagens.
