Lisa See nasceu em Paris, mas cresceu em Los Angeles, mais especificamente em Chinatown. É formada pela Loyola Marymount University. Foi correspondente na Costa Oeste americana da Publisher’s Weekly. Em 1996, lançou seu primeiro livro, On golden mountain, as elogiadas memórias da saga de sua família sino-americana, best-seller nos EUA. Ruiva, com apenas um oitavo de sangue chinês, Lisa tem na cultura dos antepassados orientais suas referências como escritora. Ela estreou na ficção em 1997, com A rede da flor, indicado para o Edgar Award como melhor romance de estréia daquele ano. Atualmente, ela vive em Los Angeles com o marido e e os dois filhos.
