When Uncle Henry and Aunt Em's grey, grim Kansas farmhouse was picked up by the great summer cyclone, a wondrous adventure had begun. The whole house whirled around two or three times then rose slowly through the air with little Dorothy and dog Toto inside. After what seemed an age to Dorothy the house landed with a great crash and upon opening the door she and Toto were amazed to see a beautiful brilliant green land full of sunshine and flowers. It is not long before she and Toto meet the motley crew - Scarecrow, Lion and Tin Woodman - who are to become her travelling companions along the Yellow Brick Road which leads to the Emerald City and the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Dorothy and Toto have many adventures before the Good Witch grants them their wish - to return home to Kansas. But that is just the beginning; many more adventures lie ahead, with the weirdest folk to meet and the most fantastical places to explore - all in the Land of Oz.

Lyman Frank Baum
L. Frank Baum (1856-1919) foi um escritor, editor, ator, roteirista e produtor de cinema norte-americano. Era o sétimo dos nove filhos do casal Benjamin Ward Baum e Cynthia Stanton Baum. Entre suas muitas obras, destaca-se a série Terra de Oz, cujo título mais conhecido – no mundo inteiro e por várias gerações – é o clássico The Wonderful Wizard of Oz_ (1900), traduzido no Brasil como _O Mágico de Oz. Além de assinar com o próprio nome, Baum escreveu por meio de vários pseudônimos, incluindo Edith Van Dyne, Floyd Akers, Capitão Hugh Fitzgerald, John Estes Cooke, Laura Bancroft, Schuyler Staunton e Suzanne Metcalf. Em 1882, casou-se com Maud Gage, com quem teve quatro filhos. Frank, como preferia ser chamado, foi uma criança quieta e tímida. Educado em casa, passava horas lendo na biblioteca do pai, um homem de negócios muito rico. Apaixonado por livros, começou a escrever cedo: além dos chamados “livros de Oz” (14 títulos de sua autoria, além dos publicados por outros autores, totalizando 40 títulos sobre Oz), Baum publicou 79 obras.
