Originally published in 1959 by Fuutaro Yamada, under the title "Kouga Ninpou Chou", tells about the conflict between the ninja clans of Iga and Kouga, which has lasted more than one generation. At the center of this conflict there is a romance between the two heirs of the clans' leaders: Iga Oboro and Kouga Gennosuke. When Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu orders the clans to fight to death in order to determinate which of his sons will inherit the shogunate, Oboro and Gennosuke's love and loyalty are put under proof.
