Amor sem limites

Neste livro, o protagonista Lazarus Long (veja... Lazarus, de renascido e Long, de duradouro...) vive um tempo extraordinário em função de uma combinação de fatores genéticos e tecnológicos. Nascido de uma família com membros naturalmente longevos, Lazarus vive em uma época onde a tecnologia permite seu rejuvenescimento e o prolongamento da vida. Lazarus vive cultuado, geração após geração, por jovenzinhas atenciosas e ávidas por receber seu material genético, reforçando o sangue do clã.
Robert Heinlein, expoente da ficção científica, propõe, aqui, a utopia da imortalidade através da biotecnologia. O autor explora a adaptação a mudanças tecnológicas e sociais, as implicações éticas da extrema longevidade e, principalmente, a questão da eugenia.
O tema da perfeição genética e física foi objeto do livro "Contra a perfeição", de Michael J. Sandel. Embora uma análise sintópica seja um tanto difícil entre um livro expositivo e um romance, neste caso observa-se que o leitor, ao questionar sobre o tema, obtém uma resposta consistente dos dois livros.
