Cenários instigantes e boas ideias não bastam mais depois de quatro volumes. É necessário algo a mais que não vem.

O autor reutiliza a dinamicidade de alternar capítulos de Arthur e Folha que deu certo no anterior, mas sem oferecer muita agência às ações de Folha que, em maioria, não interferem na história. Ele também recicla a jornada em direção ao Testamento que rolou no terceiro livro (o animal recluso que é idolatrado por aqueles à sua volta).

A armadilha de Lady Friday não é o suficiente enquanto elemento surpresa. O conceito de experimentar vivências roubadas não é explorado o suficiente para ganhar dimensão na narrativa. Mesmo a aparente decisão de Arthur em sacrificar sua humanidade não se conclui.
Se Nix não ousar nos dois últimos, ele arriscará deixar uma série com tremendo potencial imaginativo cair - merecidamente - no esquecimento. E que lástima isso seria.
