Salvador Dalí is undoubtedly one of the twentieth century's most popular painters. Her created classic Surrealist images that touch upon universals of human experience. Even today they can still surprise and shock us. The technical skilfulness of his works has equally contributed to his immense popularity, and he was surely the greatest artistic self-publicist of our age. Dalí was an important writer on art and a pioneering film scriptwriter, collaboratin with Luis Buñuel on the scenario of two masterpieces of Surrealist cinema. Dalí's images, objects, behaviour and ideas imbued Surrealism with a new energy and purpose, as he explored areas of the subconscious that had hitherto remained visually untouched. His incompromising preocupation with his own sexuality led to this vast area of shared experience being openly dealt with by painting for the first time. Eventually, Dalí's art went into decline, with the surrealism becoming diluted and replaced by a quasi-religious mysticism and a concern with the way that modern science has diminished the spiritual life of mankind. During the post-war years Dalí's eagerness to accrue wealth led to the 'Dalí Scandal', whereby the market in Dalí prints became flooded with fakes and bogus 'limited editions', many of them aided by the painter's own propensity to sign blank sheets of paper in vast numbers for later printing. But in the 1960s and '70s Dalí explored new artistic techniques, in attempts to revivify his art. And throughout these years, up until his death in 1989, Dalí the showman continued cleverly to exploit the mass-media view of himself. In Dalí Eric Shanes thoroughly explores the rise and fall of the great Spanish artist. Many of Dalí's most important paintings are analysed to reveal an enormously inventive responsiveness to psychological constants of human behaviour.

    Dalí - Eric Shanes

Descreve umas poucas obras do mestre e nada mais ! Bem fraquinho ! Esperava mais ! Digamos que é um livro escrito por obrigação contratual por um autor que estava demasiadamente preguiçoso para fazê-lo ! O tamanho do livro salva a pouca coisa que oferece !
