Nelson Richard DeMille (23/08/1943) nasceu em Nova Iorque, e cresceu em Long Island, onde actualmente vive com a mulher e dois filhos. Estudou três anos na Hofstra University alistando-se depois no exército americano, onde chegou a primeiro-tenente, tendo sido condecorado com a Air Medal, Bronze Star, e the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Regressou à Universidade de Hofstra nos Estados Unidos obtendo o diploma em ciência política e história e o doutoramento em Letras Humanas. Doutorou-se igualmente em Literatura na Long Island University. Escreve short stories, críticas literárias e artigos para revistas e jornais.
