Carol Suzane nasceu em 20 de dezembro de 1945 nos Estados Unidos, filha de Phyllis e Whit Hoose. Ela se casou com Kenneth E. Backus e teve quatro enteados. Publicada desde 1992 como Suzanne Barclay, foi autora da Harlequin Historical, se especializando em romances ambientados na Era Medieval. Ela fundou a Lake Country Romance Writers em 1993 e serviu como primeira presidente. Suzanne morreu em 15 de setembro de 1999 após uma longa batalha contra o câncer.
