Um livrinho curto mas profundo, e muito doloroso, amargo. A linguagem é bem poética, o que parece potencializar o sofrimento da personagem Pecola, a menina negra que sonhava em ter olhos azuis achando que era essa a causa da felicidade nos EUA racista dos anos 40. A estória em si não é muito diferente de tantas outras que lemos ou ouvimos, o tema não é nenhuma novidade, mas é um livro extremamente bem escrito, cuidadosamente trabalhado, a prosa flui como uma canção sobre sonhos despedaçados, ilusões desfeitas e corações partidos.
