Heather Gudenkauf é a caçula de seis filhos. Aos 3 anos mudou-se para o Iowa, onde permaneceu até à idade adulta. Tendo nascido com uma deficiência auditiva profunda unilateral, Heather tendia a usar os livros como um recuo, para escapar do mundo ao seu redor. Heather tornou-se uma leitora voraz e as sementes de se tornar uma escritora foram plantadas. Licenciou-se em Educação Básica na Universidade do Iowa e passou os últimos dezoito anos a trabalhar com alunos de todas as idades. Atualmente, é Literary Coach e dá formação sobre desenvolvimento profissional e curricular de professores. Heather vive em Dubuque, Iowa, com o seu marido, os seus três filhos e um perdigueiro muito mimado, o Maxine. Em seu tempo livre Heather gosta de passar tempo com sua família, ler, caminhar e correr.
