She's only the house-sitter. Alice Quayle lives on the space station Argus. She wakes to the sun breaking over Africa. She keeps watch over the experiments. She makes sure the station doesn't explode. And she's the only occupant when the world far below her comes apart in flame. The Caretaker is a short story – like many of my stories – about the end of the world. And like the other stories, the end is seen through the eyes of someone unique... and very far away. This story began as a comic script that my friend Tony D'Amato and I planned to release in 2012. It's finally seeing release now as a short story.
