Helen Price follows the story of Pride and Prejudice..... With their personal rifts resolved there are no impediments to the path of blissful happiness for the newly-weds, Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth Darcy, except, that is, those presented by their friends and family, in whose troubles they become increasingly embroiled. Lydia continues her pursuits in frivolity leading to involvement with a couple of unscrupulous characters to the extent of endangering her life and indirectly putting Jane’s at risk, too. But is her husband, Wickham, as concerned as he appears or is there something sinister about his motives? Mr Darcy can never be fully content while hostility remains between him and his aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh. It seems his wish for reconciliation will be granted when she finally accepts an invitation to Pemberley, only to be dashed when a family secret is inadvertently uncovered. Yet, in a surprise turn, this cloud has a silver lining, at least for the sickly, reclusive Anne de Bourgh. Love affairs abound—notably those concerning Kitty, Mary and Georgiana; taking the usual meandering courses, and not all have happy endings. There are new friends in plenty to be made in Derbyshire by the sociable Lizzy and plenty more who wish to be her friends but whom she prefers to keep at arm’s length. Through all their trials Elizabeth and her husband work together as one, so that every burden is halved, even that presented by Mrs Bennet, whose flapping handkerchief and heart flutterings are still very much in evidence.
