Special Orders to Commander Craig: Destroy the "bomb" — or else... Abandon Galaxy! (1967) '.' The second "Commander Craig Galactic Adventures", as a 'James Bond in Space' plot... Somers/Fox was particularly a fan of pulp space opera, of the Edgar Rice Burroughs and E.E. "Doc" Smith variety. Dashing heroes, planets in peril, action, violence, and beautiful, characterless women that essentially serve as (a) a sexual reward for the hero, and (b) a literary device to repeatedly illustrate what a hot stud the hero is. This book, "Abandon Galaxy", was the second (and last) in a series of this genre that Somers/Fox tried to get off the ground, and the protagonist, Commander Craig, was aimed at being the next John Carter of Mars'.'
