Ali Smith
Nascida no seio de uma família de classe-média de Inverness, vive hoje em Cambridge. Estudou em Aberdeen e, mais tarde em Cambridge, onde nunca chegou a concluir o doutoramento. Numa entrevista de 2004 à revista Mslexia, falou do seu sofrimento devido ao síndroma de fadiga crónico e de como tinha deixado de leccionar na Universidade de Strathclyde para se focar naquilo que realmente gostava: escrever. Abertamente homossexual, vive com a sua parceira Sarah Wood há cerca de 20 anos.
