Como disse na postagem sobre o livro Lady Almina e a Verdadeira Downton Abbey, minha série preferida é Downton Abbey, o drama britânico sobre os moradores e criados de uma propriedade rural inglesa no início do século passado. Tanto que procuro ler tudo que se escreve sobre a série. Entre as minhas leitura estava o livro mencionado acima, em que a atual condessa de Carnarvon fala sobre a vida da bisavó de seu marido, o oitavo conde de Carnarvon.
A relação entre os Carnarvon e a série é que o conde e a condessa moram no cenário em que é filmado o seriado britânico, o castelo de Highclere.
A atual lady Carnarvon se aventura entre os documentos históricos, diários pessoais, livros e pesquisas para construir um relato histórico leve e interessante que registra em primeiro lugar a história dos ocupantes do castelo de Highclere no último século, através da perspectiva da sexta condessa, lady Catherine. Com o relato, nos dois livros, fica registrado também parte da história da Inglaterra e do mundo. Juntas, Almina e Catherine passaram por duas guerras mundiais, conflitos dentro do Império Britânico e disputas políticas nacionais.
Catherine, como a sogra, era americana, filha de uma família oligárquica, mas depauperada, e após rejeitar vários pretendentes na Inglaterra, fez um bom casamento com o herdeiro de Carnarvon. Entretanto acabam aí as semelhanças entre elas. Catherine viveu em uma época de reviravoltas em uma sociedade até então engessada, teve de tocar o castelo com menos empregados.

Como da vez anterior a condessa foi muito gentil ao me responder quando escrevi comentando sobre o livro, por outro lado, a Editora Intrínseca não manifestou vontade quanto a tradução desta sequência, de modo que a leitura só está disponível em inglês.
