Atravessar uma fronteira de terra árida que se mostra como cair em uma outra dimensão em que ninguém te entende e te tratam como um alienígena e não poder pedir ajuda, porque se está fazendo algo errado. Makina representa toda uma parte da população mexicana e não apenas mexicana, mas também de centro-americanos e sul-americanos que parecem que não estão atrás apenas do sonho americano, mas de alguma terra em que possam sonhar.
