José Eduardo Degrazia is a traditional poet from the South of Brazil. He has published 18 books, divided into poetry, short stories, novels and stories for kids. He has also participated in 22 anthologies, and has translated 13 books. His poems have traveled to Cuba, Argentina, Romania, Moldavia and Italy. And the author has received eight literary prizes. In this book he has exercised his talent to write in other languages. Here we can find poems in English and Spanish, French, Italian and German. But, as we work as teacher and translator of the first two ones, we have decided to analyze poems only from English and Spanish. Acting like that, we can be a little bit more professional. And we have to explain something else. We have written about poetry since 1990 for both books and newspapers. We have also written a book about Degrazia’s work, title that was launched in 2013. We have always cited the most important essayists of literature, and the principal writers. Here we have the wish to do something different. So we have read the whole poetic work of an important poet in the South of Brazil, Mario Quintana, who has written 34 books, totalizing one thousand pages. We have looked up all the verses Quintana wrote about the job of the poet, and we are going to link his ideas to Degrazia’s poetry. Afterwards we analyze the other poems written in English and Spanish from Love is Geometry, talking about the principal themes and literary resources used here.
