O segundo volume da trilogia Bromeliad se passa apenas alguns meses após os eventos de Truckers.

Depois de acharem a pedreira, os Nomes tentam se adaptar ao novo meio e a nova pirâmide social. Pratchett novamente não economiza palavras ao criticar a posição da igreja, das antigas elites e do tradicionalismo que emperram as mudanças, contudo, seu maior alvo aqui foi a inação da população ao se encontrar no que comumente referimos como bons-tempos.

Grimma e Dorcas, respectivamente a educação e a tecnologia, são as forças motivadoras nesse volume e, igualmente criticados, se ajustam aos novos tempos. Sempre dá certo? Como na vida real, óbvio que não.
