Os capítulos estão organizados em oito partes, destacando-se a parte três, na qual são abordados as diversas correntes teóricas da disciplina, e a parte quatro, em que são feitas análises de alguns temas de destaque (economia política internacional, estudos estratégicos, processo de decisão em política externa, ética internacional e direito internacional).

Sendo um Handbook, a obra cumpre seu objetivo, traçando um panorama geral sobre as Relações Internacionais como disciplina acadêmica. Contudo, os textos são um pouco "superficiais" demais. A leitura proporciona um conhecimento panorâmico e traz várias referências; porém, os artigos científicos são essenciais para aprofundamento.
