PRIDE AND PREJUDICE is a novel of manners by Jane Austen, first published in 1813. The story follows the main character, Elizabeth Bennet, as she deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education, and marriage in the society of the landed gentry of the British Regency. Elizabeth is the second of five daughters of a country gentleman, Mr. Bennet living in Longbourn.

Set in England in the early 19th century, Pride and Prejudice tells the story of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet's five unmarried daughters after the rich and eligible Mr. Bingley and his status-conscious friend, Mr. Darcy, have moved into their neighborhood. While Bingley takes an immediate liking to the eldest Bennet daughter, Jane, Darcy has difficulty adapting to local society and repeatedly clashes with the second-eldest Bennet daughter, Elizabeth.

Pride and Prejudice retains a fascination for modern readers, continuing near the top of lists of "most loved books". It has become one of the most popular novels in English literature, selling over 20 million copies, and receives considerable attention from literary scholars. Modern interest in the book has resulted in a number of dramatic adaptations and an abundance of novels and stories imitating Austen's memorable characters or themes.

Ahh Jane Austen...

O que dizer de uma escritora que eu conheço pouco e já considero pacas?

"Orgulho e Preconceito" foi o primeiro clássico da escritora que li e o primeiro clássico estrangeiro!

Para quem não conhece a história, o livro conta a história da família Bennet, focando principalmente em uma das filhas Elizabeth e nos mostra muito sobre a realidade que Austen viveu na época em que escreveu esse romance e nos mostra o quanto essa história influencia as obras de hoje.

Você deve estar pensando "ah mas é um daqueles romances água com açúcar??" Não meu jovem!!! Jane Austen faz justamente ao contrário... Elizabeth, sua personagem principal faz muitas reflexões sobre amor, costumes e as tradições da época... Realmente ela é uma daquelas personagens que você adoraria sair para almoçar e conversar!!

Há romance na história claro, mas ele é bem dosado e nem um pouco açucarado!

Enquanto eu lia a história fiquei pensando em umas pessoas da vida real que são iguais as personagens (Acho que todas nós mulheres tivemos um Whickam na nossa vida e estamos muito bem sem ele não é mesmo?)

Bom, a resenha tá boa, mas eu já não sei mais o que te dizer para convencer a ler esse livro... Eu tinha um pouco de medo de lê-lo antes por se tratar de um Clássico com C maiúsculo... Mas eu acho que você não vai se arrepender de fazer dele, sua próxima leitura!
