PERFECTION
every single comma in this book was perfect. you can tell how the storytelling was carefully planned out so all sentences are meaningful. beautiful development of the themes including the immigrant experience, misogyny, roles of power, and language and meaning across cultures. it was the first book on immigrants that I have ever read and I felt very seen. I think people don't talk enough about the desolation of not feeling like you belong anywhere anymore. or the feeling of having your true self fragmented in an attempt to find new meaning, in a new place, as a "new you." just beautiful, and brilliant, and raw. I have a reserved spot in my heart for "the books thief" and I made space to include this book in there
