Uma leitura gostosa, mas sem ser muito simples. Embora seja um livro middle grade, ele não se mantém num ritmo básico. Mesclando os acontecimentos, com histórias tipo lendas, é um livro que parece refrescante no meio dos livros do gênero. É daqueles que um leitor mais experiente pode facilmente ler sem sentir que é um livro extremamente infantil (não que esse seja um foco no gênero, claro).
O livro começa com um clima meio "O mágico de Oz" e meio "O livro das mil e uma noites", já que temos uma menina que embarca numa jornada meio fantástica sozinha e ainda temos paradas recorrentes para contar histórias (que tem relação com os acontecimentos em si).
Gostei do tom da história e dos personagens. Também acho que a mensagem do livro, embora muito usada, foi feita de um jeito bom.
O maior problema para mim, é que acho que o livro foi perdendo um pouco da força no meio e as paradas para contar as histórias começaram a ficar maçantes.
No mais, é uma leitura gostosinha e rápida, sem muitas preocupações.
