Uma crítica filosófica sobre história, política e religião

O autor, faz uma crítica profunda e complexa sobre a vida e das atitudes de um personagem histórico, que apesar das pretensas boas intenções, causou epsódios degradantes e sangrentos por grande parte da europa. A visão aguçada de Huxley leva o leitor a refletir sobre até onde são verdadeiros, os motivos para ações de um "bem maior", tão defendidos por homens do estado ou das religiões e o quanto a história pessoal, com seus dramas e traumas, vaidades e desejos, realmente conduzem a maioria destas ações.
