Nasceu em Oslo em 1968 e é considerado o mais importante autor norueguês de sua geração. É autor de Ute av Verden [Fora do mundo], que venceu o Prêmio da Crítica na Noruega em 1998, En Tid for Alt [Tudo tem seu tempo], eleito um dos 25 melhores romances noruegueses de todos os tempos, e da série Minha Luta, iniciada por A morte do pai (Companhia das Letras, 2013). O autor vive hoje em Malmö, na Suécia.
