Acabei lendo a nova versão da Darkside, e por conhecer bem a história de Jeffrey Dahmer e se interessar bastante por ela, foi um livro que ao mesmo tempo me emocionou e me impactou. Num primeiro momento, Lionel narra várias lembranças da infância de Jeff que foram agradáveis de ler e me fez refletir na questão sobre: "como saber se essa criança não vai virar um assassino em série?" E perdi algumas horas de sono pensando nos bebês que conheço e em como tiveram uma infância tão normal quanto a de Jeffrey.
Ele também deixa explícito como sua relação com Jeff era tão rasa e superficial que se sente até culpado por não perceber o abismo de escuridão que o filho se encontrava, inclusive uma parte que não chega a ser negativa mas que me fazia revirar os olhos era como ele pensava que em algum momento poderia ter sido igual ao seu filho só que em proporções menores, isso soava cansativo e eu só sabia pensar: "calma Lionel, relaxa, não é porque você era um adolescente e adulto tímido e recluso que seja o motivo do seu filho ser um psicopata". Mas enfim, ele entrega tudo que promete mas não promete muito, fico feliz que o Lionel tenha dividido os lucros das vendas com os familiares das vítimas pois é um livro baseada na relação pai e filho e várias daquelas pessoas perderam seus parentes para a perversidade de Dahmer, então essa ação de seu pai foi o mínimo.
