Mann was a comic genius, in trademark white suit and fluttering black moustache. But one morning in 1929 he walked out of his house and was never heard from again. Zimmer's obsession with Mann drives him to publish a study of his work; whereupon he receives a letter postmarked New Mexico, supposedly written by Mann's wife, and inviting him to visit the great Mann himself.

Acho que preciso ler tudo o que Paul Auster escreveu

Acho que preciso ler tudo o que Paul Auster escreveu. Preciso reler tudo também, e fazer todas as conexões que puder entre as narrativas, reconhecer as similaridades entre os personagens, até ser capaz de identificar a mão de Auster só de ler um parágrafo seu. Eu li este sabendo que voltaria, como já voltei.
Há uma singularidade no modo deste autor de contar uma vida, e, além, de emoldurar dela um quadro que não poderia não ser contado, justamente por sua banalidade, pela forma como poderia ser substituída por qualquer outra, e, no entanto, agora única, agora incomparável, agora indispensável.
Se é mesmo possível fazer isto da dor, se é mesmo possível emergir palavra após anos de silêncio e hesitação, como não confiar na mais ridícula promessa de futuro?
