Livros que narram sobre a 2ª Guerra Mundial são muito sensíveis e tristes, não tem jeito! Neste, temos:

Os pais de Charlotte são judeus, logo são presos (e mortos).
Ela fica aos cuidados de Ruby e ambas vão ajudando os pilotos aliados da maneira que podem.
Ruby, grávida de Thomas, é presa. Fica meses na prisão até um guarda ajudá-la na fuga.
Ela tem o bebê na fazenda de um casal que a socorre.
Ruby escreve uma carta aos pais informando sobre Charlotte e implora à moça que, se algo acontecer a ela, faça o possível para que seu neném chegue a seus pais.
Acontece isso mesmo, ela morre e encontra Thomas no céu (jardim de papoulas).
Os pais de Ruby adotam Charlotte e a bebê (Nadia), mas morrem 2 anos depois.
Charlotte, aos 18 anos, se casa com Lucien e adota Nadia.
Muitos anos se passam e o casal do início do livro é Charlotte e Lucien. Ela morre no campo de papoulas, de câncer.

O livro é triste pelo contexto histórico, a guerra inevitavelmente afetou a vida de todos, mas bem escrito. Quero ler outros livros da autora!
