2016 Reprint of 1961 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. With a new introduction by Gordon Allport. James published the two volume “Principles of Psychology” in 1890. Two years later, in order to make the work more available for classroom use, he condensed, reworked and rewrote the two volumes into “Psychology: Briefer Course.” James omitted in this edition much of what he had to say in the two volume set regarding vision, hearing and touch. He kept, fortunately, much of what he had to say about the higher mental processes, information that continues to influence to this day. The largest chapter is on learning, with chapters on Habit, Stream of Consciousness, The Self, Attention, Conception, Association, The Sense of Time, Memory, Imagination, Perception, The Perception of Sense, Reasoning, Emotion, Instinct, Will and more.
