Willa Cather foi uma escritora norte-americana conhecida por sua obra ambientada nas Grandes Planícies americanas, destacando-se trabalhos como <i>O Pioneers!</i> (1913), <i>The Song of the Lark</i> (1915) e <i> My Ántonia</i> (1918). Ela teve seu talento reconhecido ainda em vida e foi premiada com o Pulitzer Prize por seu romance <i>One of Ours</i> (1922), passado na 1ª Guerra Mundial. Cather nasceu em Virginia, cresceu em Nebraska e se formou na Universidade do Nebraska, antes de se mudar para Pittsburgh (durante dez anos) e se estabelecer em Nova York.
