The Rogue Prince, or, a King's Brother is a novelette by George R. R. Martin, published in the 2014 Bantam Spectra anthology Rogues. It is set in the Westeros of Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, hundreds of years before the events of A Game of Thrones (1996) during the reign of King Viserys I Targaryen. The Rogue Prince serves as a prequel to Martin's 2013 novella The Princess and the Queen and focuses on the reign of Viserys I, from his grandfather Jaehaerys I Targaryen's death to his own. It chronicles the evolving relationship between Viserys and his brother Prince Daemon, and the king's plan for succession to his daughter from his first marriage even though he has a son from his second marriage, which cements a rivalry within the Targaryens that plays out in The Princess and the Queen.

The work is presented as the writing of the fictional Archmaester Gyldayn, also the "author" of Martin's The Princess and the Queen.

Conto de George Martin, incluído na antologia Rogues (2014), e também encontrado em solitário (em inglês e espanhol). No Brasil foi lançado na coletânea "O Príncipe de Westeros e outras histórias". Narra os eventos anteriores à Dança dos Dragões, guerra civil de Westeros, se centrando especialmente na vida dos irmãos Viserys e Daemon Targaryen, e na filha de Viserys, Rhaenyra. Antecede imediatamente a noveleta "A Princesa e a Rainha, ou, os Negros e os Verdes" (publicado no Brasil na Antologia "Mulheres Perigosas").

É interessante notar que o conflito gira em torno da questão do privilégio masculino para governar. Essa era uma regra de Westeros, que os Targaryens terminaram adotando, embora como conquistadores se reservassem o direito de romper normas, e até de manter alguns dos seus costumes valyrianos, como o incesto e a poligamia, desaprovados pelos nobres dos Sete Reinos. Viserys, na falta de um descendente masculino institui sua filha como herdeira do trono, rompendo com a decisão do conselho de anos anteriores, e essa foi a causa motriz da guerra sangrenta que dividiu e enfrentou a casa Targaryen e redefiniu o futuro do continente.
