The day of the locust é bem difícil de avaliar, veja bem, enquanto concordo com as resenhas de 5 e 4 estrelas dizem sobre esse livro no Goodreads, ainda assim minha sensação é que ele é apenas mediano e uma sensação que no cinema ficaria melhor. Como não vi o filme do Schlesinger ainda não dá pra saber, mas a sequência final seria esplendorosa se bem filmada, um final que gosto muito sobre a partição do american way of life, mas que não chega a elevar o resultado geral do livro.
Já vi alguns filmes roteirizados pelo Nathanael West, mas ainda estou para entender o porquê dele ter se tornado um escritor razoavelmente cultuado. Talvez seja a falta de literatura verdadeiramente genial nos EUA, né.
