The Prom

The Prom is an adaptation of the Broadway musical "The Prom", which is based on a true story.
It is about a girl named Emma who wants to take her girlfriend to prom, but the conservative people of her hometown strongly oppose and threaten to cancel the ball. That's when the cavalry arrives. Two Broadway stars come in and march along the girl's rights, which means basically exploding a bomb. And to top everything, the other girl, Alyssa, is in the closet and is the daughter of the PTA council, who is making the possible and impossible to stop Emma from attending.
It's a good book, it shows the struggle of both the girls and how deep this matter really is. It has sweet moments, sure, and some funny ones too, but it doesn't get too much out of focus and is a lesson of acceptance and respect. There is a place for everyone in this world, and if you're not there yet, just have a little patience. Just like Emma says, we can choose our own family, people we love and that love us unconditionally.
