Amartya Kumar Sen
Amartya Sen (Santiniketan, 3 de novembro de 1933) é um economista indiano. Foi laureado com o Prémio de Ciências Económicas em Memória de Alfred Nobel de 1998, pelos seus contributos para a teoria da decisão social, e do "welfare state". Seus livros mais importantes incluem "On Economic Inequality", "Poverty and Famines" e "On Ethics and Economics". Sua maior contribuição é mostrar que o desenvolvimento de um país está essencialmente ligado às oportunidades que ele oferece à população de fazer escolhas e exercer sua cidadania. E isso inclui não apenas a garantia dos direitos sociais básicos, como saúde e educação, como também segurança, liberdade, habitação e cultura.
