Kawakami Hiromi
Nasceu em Tóquio em 1958. Estudou ciências biológicas na Universidade de Ochanomizu e foi professora até 1994, quando estreou na literatura com o romance Kamisama [Deus]. Com Hebi o fumu [Pisar uma cobra] recebeu em 1996 o Prêmio Akutagawa. Desde então, vem sendo reconhecida e laureada em diversas premiações importantes, inclusive com o Prêmio Tanizaki de 2001, por A valise do professor. Uma das escritoras japonesas mais lidas na atualidade, Kawakami vem se impondo no mundo literário com a tonalidade extremamente peculiar de seu estilo, ao mesmo tempo refinado e enxuto, onde os temas privilegiados são o dia a dia metropolitano, o charme das metamorfoses da vida, o amor e a sexualidade.
