Winfried Georg Maximilian Sebald
Nasceu em Wertach im Allgäu em 1944, filho de uma família católica do interior da Bavária. Depois de estudar literatura alemã em Freiburg, lecionou em Manchester, na Inglaterra, de 1966 até 1970, quando se transferiu para a Universidade de East Anglia, onde permaneceu até sua morte, num acidente de carro, em 2001. Poeta, ensaísta e tradutor, Sebald é reverenciado no mundo todo por seus livros de ficção, contemplados com numerosos prêmios literários em diversos países.
