John Connolly nasceu em Dublin, Irlanda em 1968 e já trabalhou como jornalista, barman, funcionário do governo local, garçom, e em loja de departamentos, em Londres. Ele estudou Inglês no Trinity College, Dublin e jornalismo na Dublin City University.
