Um passo lento, mas que segue crescendo

Uma pena não ter encontrado este livro em português.
Apesar de ter um inglês satisfatório, comecei a ler o McTeague com certa birra. Acho mais bonito a palavra escrita nas línguas latinas e o inglês sempre me parece meio raso e inexpressivo.
Mas Frank Norris faz deste livro uma obra-de-arte, com descrições ricas e perfis muito profundos que vão sendo cozinhados aos poucos. Começamos gostando de todos e depois vemos as imperfeições, os vícios, a mesquinhez.
Não posso recomendar este livro o bastante e é uma pena ele não ter recebido a pompa que merece.
