Revised Version (RV): the authorized revision of King James Version (1611). New Testament published in 1881 and Old Testament in 1885.
The English Revised Version was the first and remains the only officially authorized and recognized revision of the King James Bible. The work was entrusted to over 50 scholars from various denominations in Britain. This seminal edition is the first modern Bible with text divided into paragraphs and poetical passages broken into verses according to the parallelisms. Critical editions of source texts were used and findings of current scholarship were taken into account. Given the literal approach of the revisers, this version remains one of the most exact and beautiful renderings of the Scripture into English.
This electronic edition brings the most accurate version of the text available today. The text was checked with a printed copy. Original formatting is carefully preserved as well as both original prefaces. Some footnotes are retained, especially where there are verses missing &c.
