Lizzie.Alice 19/12/2022Rereading Anne Rice's masterpieceI've read this book for the first time a few weeks ago. At the end, I realized that it was very much necessary a second reading (I actually listened to it, but oh well). The book isn't difficult to understand, bear with me, I just think that the first time you read it, you're meeting the characters and getting to know the story as Louis tells it. The second time, however, you get to learn some inconsistencies in Louis's narrative, you start to have a better grasp of his prejudices and there's even a better understanding of his character and the characters he describes.
I know, I haven't read the rest of the vampire chronicles yet, but I'm sure reading twice this book gave me a better perspective of Anne Rice's mind, at the very least when she was writing this book specifically.
And yes, besides everything, Louis is still my favorite character in this book. I'm very sad he doesn't get much agency in the later books...
