Edit 9 de outubro de 2022: estou aumentando minha nota para 4 estrelas, pois continuo pensando nessa história e gostando dela cada vez mais!

Estou tão feliz que existem audiobooks. Primeiro tentei ler My Heart is a Chainsaw em forma de e-book e não consegui. O áudio foi uma experiência muito melhor para mim e, se você realmente quiser ler este livro, eu recomendo tentar o audio em vez do ebook/livro físico.

Com isso dito, este livro foi lido como um sonho febril muito longo e complicado. A perspectiva de Jade era confusa e embutida com basicamente todas as referências de filmes de terror. Minha mente estava girando tentando entender o que estava acontecendo e algumas das piadas sobre filmes definitivamente passaram pela minha cabeça.

A primeira metade também foi muito lenta, mesmo depois que eu me acostumei com o monólogo interno de Jade. Havia muita configuração em relação a toda a situação da final girl e como Jade via o mundo e seu povo e isso foi um desafio para superar. Ela era uma narradora pouco confiável e muito desagradável.

O enredo melhorou durante a segunda metade, ainda mais quando as peças começaram a se encaixar no passado de Jade e o que realmente estava acontecendo. Uma vez que os elementos de terror/slasher começaram, eu fiquei viciada e praticamente não conseguia parar de ouvir o áudio. Stephen Graham Jones fez um trabalho fantástico na execução dos momentos de terror e eu amei como ele escreveu todas as mortes e os capítulos finais quando Jade chegou a um ponto de ruptura em sua jornada.

O final foi... um pouco decepcionante, pessoalmente? Eu entendi o que Jones estava tentando fazer, mas não funcionou para mim após a entrega do slasher. Estou curiosa para ver se a sequência nos dará as consequências de tudo através de flashbacks ou de alguma outra forma! Então, estou feliz por ter mudado os formatos de leitura e ter continuado com a história.
