When Britain pursues an unjust war with China over silver and opium, Robin must decide: Can powerful institutions be changed from within, or does revolution always require violence? What is he willing to sacrifice to bring Babel down?

Babel — a thematic response to The Secret History and a tonal response to Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell — grapples with student revolutions, colonial resistance, and the use of translation as a tool of empire.

uma experiência única que vale cada segundo

Eu acho que é um livro que todo mundo deveria ler, mesmo não achando que seja um livro que vá funcionar pra todo mundo. Pra quem já leu Guerra da Papoula sabe que a R. F. Kuang gosta de escrever bastante, longos parágrafos de muitos detalhes e capítulos longos. Babel não é muito diferente. A única coisa que difere é que Babel quase não tem cenas de ação, as que tem é bem mais pro final. Por isso eu digo que não vai ser um livro pra todo mundo. É um livro denso, lento, com muitas explicações (é como uma dissertação), então caso você for ler esperando cenas de ação e até romance, esse livro não é exatamente pra você. E mesmo assim, se você quiser dar uma chance, seja bem vindo a essa aventura que é ler esse livro incrível e único. Muito bem escrito e não é uma história feliz. Ela é realista, expõe crueldade, expõe racismo, preconceitos, mostra até onde um ser humano é capaz de chegar pra se fazer superior ao outro. Como eu disse no título, é uma experiência única que vai fazer Babel ficar marcado em você.
